The city of
Cardiff itself is home to around 42,000 students attending 4 major higher education
institutions namely Cardiff University (27,000), University of Wales Institute
Cardiff (11,500), Glamorgan University (3000 in Cardiff with 18,500 more in
Pontypridd) and The Welsh College of Music and
Drama (500). Impressively Cardiff also has one of the best student retention

One of the largest student unions in the UK. Despite the buildings appearance, inside the Students Union is home to an array of bars, a 1700 capacity nightclub (Solus), cafes, a radio station (Xpress Radio), student TV station (CUTV), weekly newspaper (Gair Rhydd), magazine (Quench), a student job shop, student advice center, student advice center and is also home of the AU (Athletic Union). The students union is in total home to more than 150 sports clubs and societies, the ranging from the usual sports to the more bizarre societies like puddle jumping and custard wrestling! |

The University of Wales Institute, Cardiff spreads itself across 4 main sites: Cyncoed, Llandaff, Colchester Avenue and Howard Gardens. The Colchester Avenue campus is set to be closed and facilities moved to Llandaff by 2010. The UWIC Hall of Fame Roll of Honour includes over 300 International performers from 30 different sports. It also has the largest university bus service in Wales allowing students to easily get across the city by bus. |

Set in the grounds of Cardiff Castle the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD) specialises in training for those pursuing performance and performance related careers. In June 2002 her Majesty The Queen during her Golden Jubilee visit to Wales announced that the College would be known as the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. This accolade is only shared by four other conservatoires in the United Kingdom (Source: RWCMD). |
